Reverse 411
Reverse 411 is the practice of looking up the owner of a phone number. For instance let’s say that you get a call from the area code 202, which is Washington DC. You don’t know the caller, and you let the call go to voicemail. The voice mail says it is your congressional representative’s office calling in response to a letter you wrote that representative.
Now, you know from your phone’s caller ID that 202 is a DC area code, but you wrote that letter more than six months ago, and you’re suspicious of the legitimacy of the call. What can you do? You can perform a reverse 411 on the phone number!
Similarly to regular 411 inquiries, reverse 411 usually has a fee attached to it. But with a reverse 411 you can get the name and address of the registered owner of a phone number. This can be extremely handy in situations like the one described. Reverse 411 is limited to publicly listed phone numbers; it is considered an invasion of privacy to have a reverse 411 on file for an unlisted number.
